Russell Brand dropping Jewels

I was cruising my way through Netflix when I ran across Russell Brand’s stand up comedic act Messiah Complex. As a fan of his work, I was eager to dive into the world of Russell and see what joys his randomness would bring my day. Alas, I was not disappointed. Messiah Complex chose to focus on four world leaders who Brand admired: Jesus Christ, Brother Malcolm X, Che Guevara, and Mahatma Gandhi.

Russell Brand appears to be one of those rare creatures who is comfortable in his own skin. He is blessed to have escaped the world of a drug addict and rise above and become the enlightened, amusing man we see today. In watching Messiah Complex, I was encouraged by some of the subject matter mentioned. In between Russell’s anecdotes and rants, he successfully compared himself to each of the four leaders mentioned. I was impressed, mostly because a lot of the stand up comedy that the masses encourage have no substance. I hadn’t heard many reviews on Messiah Complex, but I’m glad I gave it a watch.  I feel like people often judge a book by its cover, and don’t expect to hear such gems from Brand. If you get the chance, check it out on Netflix and let me know your thoughts on it via twitter @DropaJewel.
