{The Drop} New Album Releases for May

Today, we take a moment and thank the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, for the new music released in the month of May. I would be lying if I said there was a drought in groovy tunes over the past week, but this Friday the 13th was something I’ve been looking forward to. Check out what’s out there.

Corrine Bailey Rae- The Heart Speaks in Whispers

Bailey.jpg

I’ve been waiting and swooning for new music from Ms. Bailey Rae since she dropped The Love EP back in 2011. You can ALWAYS expect sultry, soulful, jazzy music from her that will carry you for years at a time. I’m a firm believer in artist taking their time between projects. I think it makes for better more authentic sound. I’ve been streaming this album for the past week via NPR’s site and Love Love Love it. I’ll be headed to my favorite record store to get my hard copy today.

Pierce The Veil- Misadventures

Yaaaay! Metal fans unite and rejoice. Been a fan of these guys for a few years now after seeing them in concert with MayDay Parade and All Time Low. PTV bring a well needed metal/punk energy to my otherwise lower key playlist as of late. Excited to hear this.

Masta Ace- The Falling Season

Master Ace is back with The Falling Season, and I’m ready. I actually didn’t hear much about this album’s release until a buddy of mine put me on. With features like Your Old Droog and Torae, it should be a dope one. Get into some good Hip Hop this Friday the 13th.

Oddisee-The Odd Tape

Peace. This is another one I streamed on the NPR site and instantly fell in love with. Shouts out to the DMV as The Odd Tape will deliever jazz, soul and Hip Hop…the way it should be done. Looking forward to hearing great reviews on this one.

Meghan Trainor- Thank You

Thank You is Ms. Trainor’s second studio album and I’m excited. I think she makes good pop music and her career will go far. You’ve got to keep your playlist poppin and diverse, so give this a shot.

Some other albums that you might want to check out right now:

Cyndi Lauper- Detour

The Virginmarys- Divides

Chance The Rapper- Coloring Book

Let me know what you are currently listening to. Happy Friday the 13th.

{October Edition}The Drop

Praise de Lawd and pass the headphones! Every month or so, I try to keep DropaJewel.com viewers in my earbuds with what I’ve been listening to. I pride myself on being a music junkie, and diving into some of the best of each genre…but my mood plays a big part. Check out the list and share your thoughts:

The Game- The Documentary 2 & The Documentary 2.5

TheGameDocumentary2

I’ve seen about 50 versions of this album artwork by now, but these albums are solid. If you are a hip hop head, you may have been a fan of Game’s music but this is some of his better work. The Documentary 2/2.5 features a good variety of acts such as Lil Wayne, Will.i.am., Jay Rock, Nas, Schoolboy Q, Dej Loaf, Ty Dolla $ign, Skrillex, Snoop, Drake etc etc etc. Go get you some rap and enjoy.

Big Grams- Big Grams

Big Grams

Ohhhhhh so rapper Big Boi from Outkast linked up with New York alternative rock-ish duo Phantogram to give us Big Grams! The project is short and sweet but gives you allllll dope beats over dope rhymes. It’s definitely more than a one time listen.

Janet Jackson- Unbreakable

Janet Unbreakable

I got all good vibes from Janet with this project. Of course Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are producing on here along with Missy Elliott and J Cole. I think since Janet’s marriage, she didn’t want to get too sexy on this one and I can understand. Owwww! It’s always great to hear new music from Ms. Jackson as I respect her artistry and salute her as a pop icon. Check it out and let me know your thoughts.

Lana Del Rey- Honeymoon

Lana_Del_Rey_-_Honeymoon_(Official_Album_Cover)

Let me just keep it 100% real with you guys and say that I’m still up in the air about this album. I feel like it was over and under rated at the same damn time. Lana Del Rey does not make music for everybody. You have to be a very specific demographic to enjoy this. I will say that there are really high points in the music that make me feel a little low. Honeymoon is melodic and haunting. I’m just going to keep playing it until I can come to a sane conclusion. The fact that it makes me work so hard is possibly a good sign that it could overall be a timeless album. I have no idea.

Let me know what you are listening to right now! Check me out Friday nights at midnight on Strictly Hip Hop, WEAA 88.9fm  #DropaJewel4mayor
